University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our Critical Care team in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

What You’ll Do
As a Critical Care Physician Assistant, you will provide advanced clinical care in collaboration with the medical team, including:
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, medical examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
- Obtain patient histories and develop individualized plans of care.
- Order, obtain, and interpret appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic studies.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management and other therapeutic interventions.
Manage the ongoing needs of acutely and critically ill patients in collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.
Communicate plans of care with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, case management, and other healthcare professionals.
Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and ongoing care needs.
Document assessments, clinical findings, procedures, diagnostic results, and treatment plans accurately in the medical record.
Respond to changes in patient condition and collaborate with the care team to support timely clinical intervention.
Participate in patient safety, quality, and departmental initiatives.
Put Your Procedural Skills to Work
- This role offers the opportunity to perform and/or assist with advanced bedside and critical care procedures. Depending on clinical needs, procedures may include:
- Central line placement
- Arterial line placement
- Venipuncture
- Intubation
- Point-of-care ultrasound
- NG tube placement
- EKG and laboratory interpretation
- Wound care and dressing changes
- Wound closure
- Incision and drainage
- Injections
- Additional procedures based on department needs, training, competency, and scope of practice
What We’re Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program approved by the applicable State Board of Licensing or determined to be substantially equivalent to programs required in Maryland.
- Current or eligible Maryland licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- Current BLS certification, or ability to obtain prior to providing direct patient care.
- DEA and CDS eligibility.
- Previous Physician Assistant experience is preferred but not required.
- Critical care, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, surgery, or other high-acuity clinical experience is a plus.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Interest in developing and maintaining advanced procedural competencies.
Schedule & Clinical Environment
This is a hospital-based position supporting a patient population ranging from adolescents through older adults. The role may include weekend coverage, shift work, on-call responsibilities, holidays, and overtime based on departmental and patient-care needs.

Key Responsibilities
The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive clinical care to critically ill patients, including performing medical assessments, developing treatment plans, and managing medications. They will also perform and assist with advanced bedside procedures such as central line placement, intubation, and point-of-care ultrasound.
Requirements
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold or be eligible for a Maryland state license. Current BLS certification and DEA/CDS eligibility are required, with preference given to those with prior experience in critical care or high-acuity clinical settings.
