Job description

Weekly outpatient therapy isn't always enough, and a trip to the ER isn't the only answer. Patients and their families rely on Compass Health Center when in crisis – every day, we help people overcome depression, anxiety, suicidality, obsessions/compulsions, trauma, chronic pain, and other obstacles in order for our patients to live freely.
About This Role
As the largest provider of PHP/IOP programs and psychiatric services in Illinois, Compass Health Center is one of the fastest-growing behavioral health organizations in the country. Launching in early 2027, our location in Falls Church, Virginia, will be home to top local talent in behavioral health care. This interdisciplinary team of trailblazers will build our adolescent and adult programs from the ground up alongside the leadership of well-established clinicians and doctors working in PHP/IOP behavioral health care for the past decade.

As an Adolescent Group Therapist, you will spend the majority of your time with our patients facilitating evidenced based groups using modalities like CBT, DBT, and ACT. We are seeking new and experienced clinicians with a passion for delivering dynamic and informative groups for our patients. This role will work with patients aged 12-18 in our Mood & Anxiety Program, while also offering the opportunity to be cross-trained within our Adolescent specialty programs and services: School Refusal, OCD/Complex Anxiety, Mental Health and Substance Use.
Note: This position is anticipated to start in mid-January 2027, with interviews beginning in September 2026 and continuing through the end of the year
What You'll Do:
Developing and implementing DBT/CBT skill groups, working with ages 12-18 years old
Providing crisis intervention and staff support, as needed
Developing and documenting treatment plans and weekly update
Co-facilitating creative expression and other experiential therapeutic groups
Assisting program director in supporting families through phone coaching and follow-up calls
Checking in with treatment team about changes and progress for individual patients
Providing clinical observations and insights during interdisciplinary meetings
Providing individual support to patients, as needed
Providing support to other team members in various treatment groups
Providing guidance and support for milieu staff during skills and executive functioning therapy activities/instruction
Participating in discharge planning for patients
Other duties, as assigned
Who You Are:
Psychologist or Master's level therapist
Hold or be eligible for a Master's level provisional or independent clinical license in Virginia
1 + year of post-Master’s clinical experience, or a relevant master’s level internship
Possess a core skill set of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Experience with patients in crisis, and a strong passion for working within high acuity environments

$64,000—$80,000 USD
