Carilion Clinic Department of Anesthesiology and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) seek a fellowship-trained Critical Care Anesthesiologist to join our growing academic practice.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our department during an exciting period of growth as we launch a new Anesthesiology Residency Program beginning in Summer 2027. As a faculty member, you will play an integral role in shaping the future of anesthesiology education while helping expand critical care services within one of Virginia's premier academic health systems.
Practice at Carilion Medical Center (CMC), a 753-bed tertiary academic medical center and one of the region's busiest Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers, featuring 49 anesthetizing locations and NORA suites. Physicians practice in a collaborative environment dedicated to clinical excellence, innovation, multidisciplinary care, and outstanding patient outcomes.
The position includes a faculty appointment with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Research collaboration with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is encouraged and supported.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert anesthetic and critical care management for complex surgical and critically ill patients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive patient care plans.
- Perform pre-operative assessments and perioperative planning.
- Participate in ICU patient management and multidisciplinary rounds.
- Mentor medical students, residents, and fellows while helping build Carilion's new residency program.

Work Experience
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- ABA Board Certified or Board Eligible
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Critical Care Fellowship
- Excellent clinical skills in anesthesiology and critical care
Requirements
Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and be ABA Board Certified or Board Eligible. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Critical Care Fellowship is required.
