Key Responsibilities

Staff members receive and process allegations of delinquent and undisciplined behavior, assess juvenile risks and needs, and make recommendations to the court, which may include secure detention if warranted. Responsibilities also involve providing case management, supervision for youths on probation, and aftercare/post-release supervision for committed juveniles.

Requirements

To qualify as a Juvenile Court Counselor, applicants need either a Master's degree plus one year of related experience or a Bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience in counseling or human service case management. Trainee applicants require only a Bachelor's degree and must meet necessary special qualifications, including passing various screenings and obtaining Juvenile Justice Officer certification.
