This position qualifies for federal student loan forgiveness. After 10 years of qualifying payments while working full-time for a nonprofit employer, the remaining balance on your Direct Loans may be forgiven.

About the Role

Join UT Southwestern Medical Center as an Academic Hospitalist in Dallas, Texas. This full-time position offers a hybrid schedule with 50% day shifts and 50% night shifts, providing diverse clinical experiences at a leading academic institution. You will provide direct patient care on med-surg units and play a critical role in teaching and mentoring residents and medical students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional clinical care to a high-complexity patient population on med-surg level units.
  • Day shifts: rounding on general ward patients or admitting new patients.
  • Night shifts: primarily admitting hospital medicine patients and patients on behalf of other medical services.
  • Teach and mentor internal medicine residents and medical students.
  • Collaborate with advanced practice providers in a shared visit model during some weeks.
  • No procedures and closed ICUs.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Eligible for Texas medical licensure.
  • Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine.

Work Schedule

  • 7 days on/7 days off with 12-hour shifts.
  • 175 shifts per year.
  • Alternate between day and night shifts every 4 weeks.
  • Day shifts mostly 12 hours with no overnight pager call.
  • Night shifts are staggered.
  • Guarantee of either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day off every year (usually alternating years).
