Occupational Health and Safety Advisor - In-flight Service and Flight Operations - Temporary

The purpose of this role is to ensure the assigned branches are compliant with the Canada Labour Code Part II, the Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the Aviation Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and relevant aspects of Air Canada Publications including Pub 5. The position provides guidance on health and safety matters to different management units and employee groups to ensure Air Canada’s health and safety compliance.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the production, quality, and distribution of all deliverables to Employment and Social Development Canada on behalf of Air Canada (Hazardous Occurrence Investigation Reports, Lab1058s, etc.). Ensure compliance with the Labour Code and protects Air Canada from financial penalties issued under the Administrative Monetary Penalties program.
Act as an intermediary between Air Canada and Labour Unions (e. g, CUPE, ACPA) for all occupational health and safety matters. Ensure matters are solved internally to avoid any escalation to the Regulator.
Manage the work of the Policy Committee(s) on the behalf of Air Canada in the role of Employer Chair, and where applicable, participate in Local Health and Safety Committees.
Evaluate and conduct an in-depth analysis on health and safety related findings and implement quantifiable corrective measures to both prevent recurrence and protect Air Canada from financial penalties issued under the Administrative Monetary Penalties program.
Develop/expand the Hazard Prevention Program. Conduct in-depth analysis using all available data to make recommendations based on the results. Ensure the program is detailed and current to guarantee Air Canada’s compliance with requirements under Part XIX of the COHSRs.
Coach and support operational managers and unionized members of Local Health and Safety Committees. Ensure collaboration is maintained at the committee level to advance and resolve matters efficiently. Ensure the operational business units are in compliance with the Canada Labour Code.
Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for the leadership and executives of the operational branch.
Create and direct occupational safety initiatives for the branch such as Health and Safety Week, CORs, injury reduction campaigns, etc. Initiatives will be linked to the immediate goals and stretch goals of particular executives.
Lead health and safety risk assessments as required and ensure they are documented in WEBOHS.
Participate in cross-branch risk assessments as required and ensure all items assigned to Corporate Safety are implemented and effective.
Investigate significant employee injuries and other incidents/accidents as assigned. Identify root causes and contributing factors to develop corrective actions with a means to monitor their effectiveness.
Participate in audits as required.
Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to garner and provide support for safety initiatives.
Maintain a current awareness of laws and regulations related to the Canada Labour Code Part II, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and Standards.
Support and contribute to the objectives of Corporate Safety as required.
Previous operational experience as a flight attendant/in-charge/previous in-flight operational experience
Knowledge of the CLC Part II, COHSRs, AOHSRs and/or experience with Health and Safety Committees would be an asset
Able to work occasionally during nights and weekends. Occasional travel.
University degree and/or formal training in Health and Safety, risk management preferred
Preference will be given to bilingual candidates

Conditions of Employment:
