Required Qualifications of a Staff Psychiatrist
A staff psychiatrist must be a physician (Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy) licensed to practice in Illinois who has completed an approved residency in Psychiatry and who is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). It is preferred that they be additionally certified in Forensic Psychiatry by the ABPN, or have completed an accredited fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry. Job Summary: Staff psychiatrists are directly responsible to the Director/Assistant Director of Forensic Clinical Services. They conduct psychiatric examinations on individuals referred from the Circuit Court of Cook County and provide expert-witness court testimony and consultations to other professionals and the Court. Typical duties of the staff psychiatrists included but are not limited to, the following: Conduct clinical Forensic Psychiatric evaluations as an independent and impartial forensic expert. Provides written reports and summaries to the Court in a timely manner, which includes relevant opinions and recommendations which comport with Illinois Statutes. Testifies in Court regarding opinions, recommendations, or other relevant issues. Provides leadership in the management of cases by coordinating with Psychology, Social Services, and the Court, and enforcing appropriate Departmental guidelines. Common assessments performed include, but are not limited to: Fitness for trial, pleading or sentencing. Sanity/Insanity at the time of offense. Ability to Understand Miranda rights at the time of giving a statement. Evaluating those adjudicated N. G. R. I. to determine if they are in need of further treatment and what type of treatment. Certification for involuntary admission. Evaluation for diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Assessment of case in Probate Court to determine the necessity of a guardian. Other Duties: Confer with Judges, attorneys, or other court personnel as required in the management of cases. Supervises psychiatric residents and Forensic fellows as required. Consult with other professional staff in the Department, offer medical expertise, and facilitate case management. Provide resources and leadership for conferences within the Department. Attend professional meetings and conferences to maintain the Continuing Medical Education (C. M. E.) credits necessary for continued medical licensure.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen. Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk. Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. Lift files and other materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Use a telephone, dictation equipment, and computer keyboard and screen on a daily basis.
