The Physician Extender performs diagnostic and advanced clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed physician to provide health services in a clinical or hospital setting. Responsibilities include conducting physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, managing primary care for disabled individuals, and intervening in medical emergencies.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in a health-related field and have graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. A minimum of two years of post-clinical affiliation experience and active licensure or eligibility for practice in Rhode Island are required.
